Jack Russell Terriers are not the dog for everyone:

  • They are first and foremost hunting dogs.

  • They are not the 'cute little dog like Eddie on Frasier, or Wishbone' as seen on TV.

  • They are highly active and remain so during their life span of 15 years.

  • They require at least basic obedience school, a secure fenced environment, and can be aggressive towards children, cats and other dogs. Therefore, applications will not be accepted to homes with children under six. Due to the fact that Jacks are basically hunters and small children and Jacks can sometimes get themselves in trouble.

  • They require a good deal of human attention and interaction.

Please read Bad Dog Talk for more information about the breed and to assist you in determining whether or not a Jack Russell is the right dog for your home.

We also recommend you take the online profiler located on the Terrier.com website.

Please be sure to do your research on this breed before considering one for your home. Many Jack Russells come into rescue because their previous owners were not prepared for this tenacious little terrier.

A variable adoption fee of $250.00 for dogs and $300.00 for puppies is required, at the time of adoption, and is based on the particular dog and what was required to make them ready for adoption (vet bills, spay/neuters or any other medical attention). The rescue representative that you get in contact with will discuss this with you.

We place dogs in Ontario, Canada and on a few occasions, we've placed dogs in other provinces (provided the adoptee incurs the transportation cost). If you are in another province, you can find your province's rescue contact on the JRTCC rescue page or if you are in the United States you can find your state's rescue contact on the JRTCA rescue page.

If you think a Jack Russell Terrier is right for you, jump start the process by using our application form on the left.

If you don't feel comfortable filling out our application and have any specific questions about our adoption process, our available dogs or our application, please feel free to contact us at adoptions@russellrescue.org with your name, phone number and the best time to contact you and we will do our best to get back to you within 72 hours.

Can you help? Abused, neglected and un-wanted Jacks need new warm, loving homes. Can you help by being a Foster Parent? Please help stop the slaughter of million of animals every year. Email Cathy at cathyjacks@hurontel.on.ca for more information.
