Rescue Roundup, Appreciation Day and Fundraising Opportunities

Most of you are probably aware that the Province of Ontario announced a three-stage framework for reopening economic activity in the province. The announcement follows a ten-day period when the number of daily new Covid cases has not increased and has, in the past few days, begun to decline. However, it was also noted that the framework is not a calendar, and no time frame was announced. Under the circumstances, I think it is necessary for us to cancel the Roundup. This is very unfortunate, but I believe it is necessary to protect all our supporters and to honour the safety guidelines that have been put in place. I am sincerely hoping that we will be able to re-schedule the Appreciation Day to a date later in the summer. I will keep everyone informed if I am able to set up a definitive date for that event.

The JRTRO depends heavily on the Rescue Roundup to bring in much-needed funds to provide veterinary care for the dogs that we rescue. Last year, over 40% of our operating budget was generated from the Roundup. We will be working to develop alternative fun fundraising opportunities, and so far, we have some great ideas, so stay tuned! Last Christmas, many of you donated on Giving Tuesday to our newly created Save A Senior campaign and I sincerely thank everyone who took part in that. In response to the Covid crisis, the creators of Giving Tuesday have launched Giving Tuesday Now, which will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. They created it to help charities and individuals that have suffered due to Covid. It is a day of coming together (virtually) and sharing personal stories about what you have done to help during the pandemic. Every one of you that is receiving this has done something, whether you are fostering, have adopted from us, donated or volunteered. If you have a story, please share it on social media at hashtag #GivingTuesdayNow to inspire others to give together. If you prefer, please share your story on our own Facebook group on Tuesday.

I realize that many of you are experiencing difficult times yourself, but if you were planning on attending the Roundup, please consider making a donation through Canada Helps: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/jack-russell-terrier-rescue-ontario-inc/. This is a fantastic way to donate, it is quick, easy, safe, you receive your tax receipt right away, we are notified that you have donated to the JRTRO through Canada Helps and your donation is permanently in our database. If we are able to reschedule the Appreciation Day, it will be free and will be open to all of our stakeholders. I will provide another update for the next newsletter.

Please stay safe and healthy.

Join us on Saturday for our Parade of Rescues

This Moving and Emotional Event takes place at 12 noon.

All Events close down and participants/judges are directed to the main area. As the crowd gathers over 40 dogs and families step out of the crowd and begin to travel the parade route with their dogs in their green bandanas along with their proud owners.

Each Dog and Owners name is called out as you progress through the Parade Route as we celebrate all those Amazing Dogs who have been given a second chance in life and the Wonderful Owners who have opened their hearts and homes to these great little dogs.

This event is open to all Rescues and their Owners, Jacks, Rat Terriers and Jack Look A Likes from “All Rescue Organizations” and is free.

Come celebrate with us and Don’t Forget to provide us with your name, your dog’s name and e-mail address so we can provide you with information and ensure your name and your dog’s name are announced in the Parade of Rescues.
